Home Page Content

The purpose of your website should be obvious from its home page. The most important information should be towards the top of the page. Your company name and phone number should be prominent. I suggest 2-4 short paragraphs (2-5 sentences) that tell who you are, what you do, how customers can benefit from your product or service, where your service area is (if applicable), and why visitors should choose your product or service over others. You want to give enough information to let visitors determine if you have the product or service they want in 2 minutes or less. Use additional pages for more detailed information. Make sure navigation is clear and easy to use. Large web sites should incorporate a search function to make it even easier to find information relevant to your visitors wants and needs.

Choosing Website Colors

Most of the time my clients allow me to “do my own thing”, choose colors and develop the entire website layout. For those who want to make their own color choices this color chart and online color schemer will allow you to specify your preferences. Be sure that the background color and text color contrast enough to make it easy to read. If you have a logo for your business you should make sure those colors are incorporated into your website.
